"Should I Get a Mac?" - Answered

Yes! I get to practice my Apple Store skills on you now You know I've always wanted to work at the Apple store (what a beautiful aspiration), so I can pseudo-simulate that and help you guys out right here! So let's get to it. After using Mac for almost 7 years, I can tell you if you're any sort of graphic designer, application programmer, web developer, musician, video editor, photographer or writer (even an aimless one like me) - it's for sure worth giving it a shot. If you have an Apple store, Best Buy or friend with a MacBook - try a Mac out! See what you like about the OS. It's a lot like the iPhone or iPad if you have one, nearly identical actually. Apps like iMessage, FaceTime, iBooks and the App store really separate Apple - you can also take phone calls and reply to text messages straight from your Mac. If you're a video editor, Final Cut Pro X is one of the top creative applications available, along with Logic Pro X for music. The M...

PC V.S. Consoles - Which Is Better and What Should You Get?

Heads-up: the word "Console" is dirtier than "Mac" for hardcore PC gamers I'm going to be blunt here - when it comes to PC graphics, there is no contest. Now of course that means you need a good PC, so you'll have to spend a minimum of $800 for an entry-level setup - although, if you look on YouTube, there are some videos where you could (amazingly) upgrade your PC or build a new one for less than $200, that's capable of playing most games. I've been playing consoles like NES and Sega Genesis (or Saturn as some of you know it) since I was two. I played games like Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong and Tetris. Then I moved to Super Nintendo, N64 and Sega Dreamcast, so I can play Mario 64 and NBA 2k. I began to see graphic potential in games when the Nintendo GameCube came out. The visuals were stunning - titles like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Mario Kart were all I played for months. Then I got a Nintendo DS for ...

Meaningful Shareable Quote

"The world was alive before, but you didn't see it - there was too much thought-stuff going through your mind, continuously. The world became dead because everything was immediately labelled mentally, ("That's a tree," "That's a dog,"); the moment you label and don't look anymore, you're not [truly] alive anymore. Everything becomes deadened through mental abstraction." - Eckhart Tolle   "The moment you label and don't look anymore, you're not alive anymore. Everything becomes deadened through mental abstraction." - Eckhart Tolle (Tweet me) This is true for so many reasons; so many of us go about our lives not making eye contact with one another or not caring about what's going on in the bustling street when we're off to work or running errands. Look at what's around you! There was another quote that went something (paraphrasing here) like: "Go outside, look up at the sky and see how wonde...

Slowing Down the "Hyperactive" Mind - Simple and Quick Relaxation Technique

The "hyperactive mind" as Eckhart Tolle puts it, is a mind like mine - inner conversation that consists of meaningless rapid-fire thoughts. Now how do you slow them down or get rid of them, so you can stay present at attentive to what you're doing? Well first off, you don't want to be completely zoned-in - that's no better than being completely zoned-out (like me most all the time) - because then you won't know what's going on around you. So when a kid fly kicks a soccer ball to your head, you'll know why. You clearly need to balance the two - focused on the task at hand, yet alert enough to slap the soccer ball away over the neighbors fence, so that brat of a kid knows his place. What Eckhart recommends is to calm the mind by "spacing the thoughts". He suggests you divert from your diarrhetic thoughts - and your level of concentration instantly increases, you relax and become apt to communicate with yourself through clearer percep...

Writing Books About My Troublemaking Terrier

I decided I wanted to become a cartoonist when I was in first grade. I never talked to anyone. I was a quiet kid who just changed schools to one of French Immersion and found everything about school in general terribly monotonous. So I entertained myself by drawing cartoons about video game characters like Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, on manilla notebooks. They were hilarious cartoon novels (I had more way personality at 6 than 18) - and to this day I wish I could find those books. I used to bring them home and when most kids would be happy to show their parent's their A or B - I was happy to show my mom my brand new book. Video games were my friends (they unfortunately still are). When I got a little older, nine at this point I took art seriously and began to sketch portraits. I took an art class at 11 and got the highest marks in art class in grade 9. Today I love doing digital video game fan art; I have a deviant art profile "Jaden Amber", and when I'm don...

The Only TV Show I Watch - What Happened?

I'm not a huge tv-show watcher, but if I've grown up with a show, it's natural I'm going to continue to watch it as an adult. The Simpsons is one of the longest running television shows on air - of course the longest running cartoon. I watch The Walking Dead when I get the chance and I used to watch Game of Thrones but haven't caught up yet; and the one show I've been watching my whole life is The Simpsons and even that show's changed in the past five or so years. Especially since the Actors for Troy McClure and Edna Krabappel sadly passed away (RIP Marcia Wallace and Phil Hartman), the show's naturally had to change things up. The problem is I don't find the jokes to be as funny as they were in the 90s and early 2000s. I'm talking like seasons 5-12. My favorite episode of all time is the one with Mindy in season 5, but I haven't watched the earlier seasons of The Simpsons in years, so I have to go back to find my all-time favo...

Should You Pre-order a Game? (Plus Best Titles this Year)

Okay, I'm guilty of doing what's essentially gaming-taboo, three times this year: pre-ordering! I've pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid V, Black Ops III and Fallout 4 - easily the most anticipated titles Q4 of 2015. Verdict? Well after a year in review, I definitely don't regret pre-ordering Black Ops III. I got to pre-load the entire 50 GB for PC and I was good to go for Zombies by 12 am. Pre-ordering Metal Gear Solid V (my favorite game this year, hands down) made me nervous; After all I couldn't wait to play it since Ground Zeroes last year. No one knew about the existence Black Ops III before April, I mean we expected it since BO2, but it wasn't set in stone until that Snapchat snap (is that what you call them?), with the "Listen only to the sound of my voice" tag. My favorite Call of Duty pre-launch and in-game campaign, by far! As for Fallout. I've heard of Fallout 4 coming for years now, but having only joined the franchise in at t...
