This Holiday Season - Someone better get my dog and I an iPad

Wow! I can't believe it's already been a year since last Christmas. It's crazy, yet expected since stores have been shelving out decorations since October. There seem to be a lot of cool, new gadgets for people to jot onto their lists this year - I personally like the new iPad Pro. It doesn't help so much that I'm a tech junkie -  worse I'm a total Apple freak. So I can't help myself. The reason I like the iPad Pro is not for its ridiculous size, but the $100 stylus, it doesn't come with. Besides, I can use it to awkwardly take videos of my dog running about and hope I don't trip and smash the thing. My dog Chloe and I can curl up on the couch this winter by the warmth of the fire and watch Disney princess movies all day! Yeah, I've been doing that practically every Christmas Break. I don't know why I still call it that, I was home-schooled in high school and I'm college-aged now, so I don't *actually* get a holiday break, but like that will stop me from taking one! I still remember getting on the bus with the feeling knowing that for two glorious weeks, I don't have to go back to class. One reason to love elementary school. Wait. Why am I still entertained watching Mickey and Minnie? Classics! That's a word kids of this generation do not understand and I'm bringing it right back into my books, oh yeah! Plus having winter vacation gives me a solid reason to play computer games for twelve hours a day, everyday, for two whole weeks!
Ahem, getting back to what gift I want, I mean I do have a Wacom pen tablet, (for those of you who don't know what that is, it's an alternative input device, so it replaces your mouse with a plastic USB pad and stylus) - but this iPad is fantastic for artists, being able to draw directly on the screen with apps like Sketchbook. It's costs a bit, $1000 here in Canada. I don't know which of my family members want to pitch in to get me this one, but I have a track record being the spoiled one who always gets what she wants (satirical smile emoticon.) I have a plan. I'll let them know in order to draw out concepts for my cartoons I NEED this iPad. My Galaxy Note is abysmal after all. So, why don't I just buy it myself? Why would I do that? It's the season of giving isn't it?

Time Manipulation in Game Design

Time Manipulation in Games Introduction The gameplay mechanic that I wish I had come up with first, is Time Manipulation. This is includes the concept of time dilation and the reversal of time in games. Implementing the Manipulation of Time Time manipulation is a robust mechanic. It involves non-exploitable time manipulation, with the goal of being fast and smooth, while not computationally-taxing on memory or hardware resources. The best way to implement this mechanic can be seen in Braid - an indie platform and puzzle game, developed by Number None, Inc. In this game, the world state is recorded for every frame, where the data is stored and compressed. With the recorded frames, any changing entities are extracted and mixed into the final state, which can be manipulated or rewound by the player. The player’s position is recorded and other properties such as color and rotation are stored as an integer that can be reconstructed, along with time information taken fro...

CoD Advanced Warfare - 7 Things That Don't Make ANY Sense

Plot (*SPOILERS) In 2054, Jack Mitchell, a new recruit in the U.S. Marine Corps, along with his best friend Will Irons, are deployed to Seoul. The assignment is an effort to repel North Korean forces from advancing into South Korea. They mission is a success, but at the cost of 6000 marines’ lives, including Will’s own from an explosion that severed Mitchell’s left arm. He is later recruited into Atlas, a private military corporation, by Will’s father Jeremy Irons. He receives a mechanically-advanced prosthetic arm to stop the KVA, an anti-western terrorist organization, from launching multiple terrorist attacks on North American nuclear reactors. After killing its leader Hades, it turns out the Atlas CEO Irons’ intentions were corrupt all along and he declares war on all world governments. Instead of the peace and security that was Atlas’ illusory purpose, Irons stands for total domination, as the only standing political power. Atlas later develops Manticore, a biological age...

Forza Motorsport 6: Apex Review - Part 3

FORZA MOTORSPORT 6: APEX Favorite Gameplay Component My favorite gameplay component of Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is altering and tailoring my driving style to the conditions of the race. If ever I attempt to reach top-speed on a wet track such as Brands Hatch United Kingdom, the vehicle spins off track and out of control. That’s a challenge for me, as my strategy isn’t so much into drifting, but in staying as straight as possible, so that I can reach over to 200 km/h -- keeping within a controllable limit. Another method of mine I had to retire -- and this is coming from the likes of Asphalt 6: Airborne and Mario Kart Double Dash - - which is ramming into players. I quickly found out in a vehicle simulator under the laws of natural physics, this reduces my speed on impact. There are also frequent bottlenecks at turning points in the track; luckily I can use my best strategy and I find this to be the best opportunity to strategically slip past other cars when an opening ...
